the roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. my father was among the first of chinas new breed of modern entrepreneurs. as a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. my mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple calculations. and so it was early in my life that i hoped i, also, would someday be able to enter the realm of business.

as a high school student in china, i had to concentrate on the college entrance examination (cee), even so, books not related to the exams were never excluded from my life. unfortunately when sitting in the exam in june, 2001, i was so nervous that i didnt score well in the cee exam. i enrolled in the department of puter science in zhejiang college of traditional chinese medicine. any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a failure at the beginning of my college life. after several terms, i realized that i would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. at that moment, i lost my direction and objectives.

my persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. as a matter of fact, i enjoyed reading the books included encyclopedia american, and some books about management by peter . i began to notice something interesting: why some panies can produce more than others? why some pany can sell more than others? why some panies can build up but others cannot when facing the same difficulties?

[摘 要]学生对英语书面表达存在恐惧心理,不能紧紧围绕主题写作,语法错误较多。要提高英语书面表达能力,应让学生创造更多的实践机会,训练各种题材的写作,养成用英语思维的习惯。巧用修辞手段,进行缩写,扩写,改写,仿写等训练。

书面表达是语言的输出形式之一。然而书面表达能力的培养与提高历来是英语教学中的难点之一。解决这一难题,首先应该找出问题之所在,然后再寻找解决这一问题的方法与途径。

一.中学生英语书面表达中存在的主要问题

1.对书面表达的意义认识不够

学生在某方面的能力强弱,与教师的引导及教师对这个问题的重视程度有着密切的关系。我们许多中学英语教师可能认为中国人学英语主要是为了能看懂英语的书面材料,而与外国人交往的机会很少,口头交流主要限于那些从事外事工作的人员(这样的人员我国真正需要多少呢?)至于能写英语文章,对于绝大多数中国人来说更无用武之地了,所以许多教师在教学中就只重视语法、阅读能力方面的培养了。

提到写作,学生都有一种恐惧心理。首先,他们担心自己的词汇量有限,想表达的意思无法用英语来表达。第二,他们担心写作中出错,影响意思的表达。其次,他们没有用英语记日记,记笔记的习惯,写作时常用中文构思再译成英文,很少找范文进行仿写,写作后自己连看也不看一眼,更不用说去注意修改了。批改后也不注意思考老师为何对自己的作文做某种修改和评注,因而也不能主动反思并调整自己的写作方法。

2.学生对书面表达的基本要求及评分标准了解不多

学生普遍认为,只要按所给材料把那些所要求的内容要点用英语写出来,按所要求的词数写1篇相当长度的文章就行了。他们对句子中的错误,上下句的逻辑关系,文章的可读性考虑不够。教师要看懂学生所写的1篇英语文章的真正含义往往要反复推敲每个句子,甚至每个词。这样作文得分的档次就会降低。现在的书面表达已经对所使用的词汇、句型、篇章结构都提出了更高的要求。既强调切中题意,语言准确,条理清楚,又要有效地使用语句间的连接成分,使全文结构紧凑,完全达到了预期的写作目的。

3.主题、篇章结构中存在的主要问题:

(1).未能围绕主题写作,东拉西扯,有的学生甚至操一些毫无关系的句子或短文。不能覆盖所要求写的语言点,部分学生只能写出一、二个要点。

(2).语法错误较多,如时态错误、主谓不一致等。不能使用结构较为复杂的语法和句法,句子结构单一,行文不够流畅,不能兼顾首尾,缺乏行文逻辑关系。

(3).用词缺乏准确性和多样性。许多词在使用中搭配有误,且词汇量较少,许多内容想表达而无法表达,文章长度达不到规定的词汇量。

4.考生在写作中常犯的语法错误:

(1)谓语动词的漏用或误用

由于英汉两种语言的谓语动词从词性到形式方面都有很大的差异性,因此,英语书面表达中谓语动词方面的错误较多。例如:

our classroom very clean. (缺少谓语动词be)

英语句子的谓语中心词只能由动词充当,可以是系动词也可以是及物动词或不及物动词。因此,对于一个英语句子来说,没有动词就意味着缺少谓语。而汉语中的谓语可以是动词、形容词、或代词。例如:

王昆江苏人。wang kun is from jiangsu.

我们的教室很干净。our classroom is very clean.

(2).动词时态的错误

英语动词时态的曲折变化在汉语里没有相应的形式。

(3).语态的误用

英语中变动语态的使用频率较汉语高,而汉语中常常把“被”字省去,因此,学生往往误把被动语态当作主动语态来用。

(4).名词单复数形式方面的错误

英语中名词在句子中运用时有单复数形式之分,要注意正确应用之。而汉语中不存在这种现象

(5).人称代词的格方面的错误

英语中代词有主格、宾格、所有格之分,汉语中无主、宾格之分,学生极易误用主、宾格,甚至所有格。

(6).冠词的漏用、误用

冠词是英语中特有的一种词,由于汉语中没有和“the”相当的词汇,在翻译时,“the”或者省去,或者用一个指示代词表示。反之,汉译英时,就要在适当的地方加上冠词。

(7).介词的误用

英语介词远比汉语介词活跃,有些介词的词意等同于汉语中的动词,运用时要特别注意。

学生对非谓语动词的三种形式的用法很难掌握,加之每种形式又有几种时态和语态,因此,非谓语动词的误用是较常见的高级错误。要能够区分to v、v-ing、v-ed的不同用法。例如:

英语中的谓语必须和主语的人称和数保持一致,而汉语中没有此规则,因此,易误用。

为何会犯这些错误呢?主要是英汉两种语言的文化背景、语法结构、表达方式等方面有很大的差异,特别是英语中有而汉语中没有的语言现象,学生往往易忽略。

值得一提的是,中国人与西方人看问题的方法的确在许多方面存在着差异,而且这种差异的的确确在束缚着中国学生,成为他们英文写作中的拦路虎,使他们不能畅所欲言,不能准确而简洁地表达思想。

首先,英美人与中国人思维方式的不同。英美人的思维方式是直线式的,他们在遣词造句谋篇上遵循着从一般到具体,从概括到举例,从整体到个体的原则。而在汉语中,我们习惯于先分后总,先说原因后说结果,即所谓的“前因后果”的原则。

然后,英语属印欧语系,汉语属汉藏语系,两种语言相距甚远,英语结构紧凑,汉语结构松散。

其次,英语的另一个显著特点是被动句多。英语重物称,常常选择不能实施动作或无生命的词语作主语,由于这些“无灵”物称充当主语,使得被动句大兴其道。而汉语习惯于人称化的表达,主语常常是能施行动作或有生命的物体,所以汉语中主动句多。

二.提高中学生英语书面表达能力的方法和途径:

1.让学生充分认识到英语书面表达的重要性

书面作文也是语言交流的一个重要方面。实际生活中,看懂别人所写的文章还不够,还应该能够把自己的信息告诉对方,特别是用书面的形式传播给对方,那么传播的距离、范围就会大得多,而用口头表达的方式来交流,就会受到时间、空间的限制,因此我们可以说书面表达的作用胜过口头表达。我们不但要学习外国的文化、科技、生活信息,还要把中国的很多信息告诉外国人,这样书面表达就可以发挥它的巨大作用了。教师应该让学生清楚地认识到这一点。

2.给学生创造更多的实践机会

我们经常讲,在学习中要五官并用,可事实上学生动手写作的机会却很少。要给学生更多的大胆写作的机会。开始写作时,可从单个的句子入手,慢慢地扩展到两句、三句,直至一段、1篇文章。并且开始时要允许学生犯错误,出了错误不要紧,可以指导他们自己或请别的同学帮助查找错误之所在。教师不应急于要求学生写出规范的句子,如果急于求成,就会挫伤他们的积极性。写作的素材要尽量广一些,且越贴近生活越好,这样他们才会有内容可写。不要一开始就给学生限定写作的题目,可让他们自由表达,想写什么就写什么,他们把想写的内容都基本写完之后,再给他们一些写作的素材,这样他们的写作范围就会得到扩大。小学语文老师让学生写作的方式很值得英语教师借鉴,小学生,特别是低年级的小学生的写作不叫写作文,而叫“写话”,写话就是把心中所想的意思转换成文字材料的过程。我们所说的英语书面表达实际上也是在进行这一步训练。我们开始就把要求提得过高,往往欲速而不达。

3.训练各种体裁的写作

书面表达的形式有记叙文、描写文、说明文、看图叙事、应用文(书信、便条、通知、海报)等。各种文体的要求要做到心中有数。书信要求把写信人的地址、写信的时间写在右上角。发言稿要分口头发言稿,还是书面发言稿,口头的就不要用很多从句、倒装句。要不反而会“画蛇添足”。看图写话一定要注意细节,情节要连贯、合理。平时教师讲解过的好文章记住,一是可以提醒自己注意哪些要点,二是多记些好文章可以培养语感。

4.要允许学生犯错误

我们做任何事情,首先要想到会有差错,其次应有出了差错再想办法纠正之的意识。这一点在学习中表现得尤为突出。学生敢写、“会”写之后,就肯定会犯语言毛病,这时,教师要有耐心、要正确地对待之,应先给学生指出错误之所在。当然有些错误只要告诉他们改正的方法,让学生自己去改就行了。这样印象就可能会深一些,只有印象深了,以后才会尽量避免类似的错误。错误越来越少了,离成功的距离也就更加接近了。

5. 从遣词造句入手,循序渐进,培养能力

听、说、读、写、译都离不开句子,文章是由一个个句子组成的。要提高书面表达能力,必须提高遣词造句的能力,要达到这个目的,除了掌握基本的句法,词法以外,重要的是创造条件多练,在练中熟悉词汇的用法,掌握句型。可按以下三步进行:

(1).背诵课文中的重要句型

先通过机械模仿,逐渐学会灵活运用做到举一反三。

(2).学会替换句子中的各个部分,造出新句。替换主、谓、宾、定、状等。

比如学了文中句型: “he found it important to study the situation in russia.”后,先要弄清这句子的基本结构,然后,学会改变句中的各个成分,再造出相类似的句子来。

(3). 做句型转换练习,学会一个句子的多种表达方式

如:在“ he was forced to leave his homeland for political reasons.” 句中“was forced to leave”可用“was obliged to leave;was made to leave;could do nothing but leave; had to leave;had no choice but to leave” 等替换。通过坚持做句型转换练习,学生一定能拓宽思路,做到高瞻远瞩,达到“条条大路通罗马”的目的。

(4).养成用英语思维的习惯,尽量克服中文式的句子

考生在书面表达中,最常见的毛病是“中文式英语”。因为学生写作时常常用汉语思维,把用汉语想好的句子逐一翻译成英语,因此,较易产生“中文式的英语”。这些句子中国人读起来较容易理解,但不符合英语的表达习惯。例如:if you want money,i have no. if you want life,i have one.(要钱没有,要命有一条)

(5).巧用连词,把简单句变成复合句

目前大纲对书面表达的评分标准已对句子结构有了更高的要求,应有“较多的语法结构和词汇”。因此学生在书面表达训练中应想到这一点,不能都是小句子、短句子。换言之,在你的短文中,应适当使用三两句结构相对复杂的句子。这样的句子把思想表达得更清楚,意义更加连贯。常用的连词主要有:who, which, that, because, since ,although ,after ,as ,before ,when , whenever , if unless ,as if 等。

(6).加强五种基本句型的训练,丰富句子类型

(7).巧用修辞手段

应用修辞手段是实现书面表达细节化最直接的方法,恰当地使用定语从句或状语从句可以使句子更加形象和生动。例如:

(9).加强审题与书写步骤的训练

书写步骤一般按以下顺序进行:

审阅题目(包括图画、图表、提纲的内容)、了解要求、确定形式、写出提纲。

写出各句的主要单词和短语。通过单词和短语构成句子。

使用适当的连词,连句成文。

审查修改。修改中特别要注意:

内容是否符合题意。

语法是否有错,如时态、语态等。

书写工整,大小写、标点符号等要做到准确无误。

字数是否达到或接近要求。

综上所述,教师应该正确认识了解影响学生书面表达能力的因素,在中学英语教学的各个阶段,注重书面表达的培养和训练,先易后难,先简后繁,坚持有目的,有计划,有步骤地对学生进行系统的写作训练。
